Cole wanted to get out our Veggie Tale's manger today, and it's only October! Of course, we did anyway! Together, we acted out the story of Jesus' birth. When it was the shepherds turn Cole said, "We brought you gold, bubble gum, and toys. Jesus needs something to do!" I smiled. I love the heart of a child! He didn't want Jesus to get bored. He knew Jesus would need things to do! That other stuff the Wise Men brought didn't sound like much fun... Bubble gum and toys... Now we're talking!
My husband did some missions work in Guatemala recently. While he was there, he had the opportunity to speak intimately with some of the Guatemalan people. Some folks had so little. One women's perspective has been impactful to both Chad and I. While Chad was accessing her needy situation, she patiently looked at him and said, "I am not poor. Sometimes people are so poor all they have is money." What more could I add to that? Sometimes all we have is money. True wealth is far beyond money. My prayer is I teach my kids what really matters that they might be some of the wealthiest men around!
Almost a year ago, God placed a call on my life to begin and facilitate a Single Mom's group within our church called Together. I'm not a single mom. Actually, I'm quite the opposite. I'm a stay-at-home mom with a super loving and supportive spouse (my friend who does this with me is also the same)! It may sound crazy for me to take this on. But repeatedly I'm reminded that God sent Jonah to Nineveh. Nineveh wasn't his homeland and these weren't his people, but God needed him to go. Sometimes all it takes is a willing heart to serve.
The single moms of our group are so strong! They possess a beauty that Revlon will never come close to manufacturing. At the conclusion of each meeting, I leave blessed. My prayer is something likewise rubs off and also blesses them. Thank you, women of Together. You mean a lot to me!
